Who We Are

Duncan Lake Resources Inc. is a company that owns a mineral deposit dedicated to the conservation of the pristine wilderness of the Purcell Mountain range and the glacial lake, Duncan Lake.  Our project includes the extraction of magnesite, talc and dolomite.  These minerals have been proven to be benign to local water and wildlife environments, which is an added bonus.

The Duncan Lake talc deposit consists of three nearly vertical parallel bands trending northwesterly, separated by two areas of black schist and the deposit contains approximately 52% talc, 35% magnesite and about 10% dolomite as the main constituents.  Previous metallurgical research has confirmed that a good grade of magnesite concentrate can be produced.

The main area of interest is located about 60 km north of  Kaslo, BC.  Our head office is situated in Westbank, BC.

History

The Duncan Lake Resources deposit was discovered in 1970 while BC Hydro was building a road to the north end of the valley.  The ensuing discovery of magnesite,  talc  and dolomite  confirms that this is one of Western Canada's major deposits.  This deposit is in a very accessible area of the West Kootenays that has been developed primarily for its extensive timber resource.  This has resulted in a good network of logging roads.

In the late 1980s, geological work  indicated that there is a significant resource located on the property.  The first reports of talc, and later magnesite, were noted in the  early 1970’s during the construction of the ‘new’ Duncan Lake Main FSR where it cut through the Bluff Area 28 km north of the Glacier Creek provincial campground on the east shore of Duncan Lake.

In the recent several years, the demand and also the price  for Mg0 has risen significantly.  DLR has therefore focused more effort toward developing these resources.  With the expanding market for magnesite in the construction industry, DLR is working to produce raw and calcined magnesite for the growing construction paneling  market and other markets.

Permitting is in progress, but the actual date for final production permits cannot be yet determined.  However, in-company economic reviews indicate that future production will yield significant dividends.  The objective at this date is to continue putting pressure on government agencies to accelerate the needed permit approvals.
